Our Vision
“As Jesus fed the five thousand, so we feed our diverse community; serving them practically and spiritually striving to meet their individual needs. We work to foster a strong sense of belonging, empowering everyone to have faith in themselves and others. By following the example of Peter stepping out of the boat, our staff and pupils will overcome challenges, develop resilience, and grow to be the best they can be. We strive to expand opportunities and widen horizons for all.”
Rooted in the theological scriptures of ‘Jesus feeds the five thousand’ (Matthew 14:15-21), and “Jesus walks on water (Matthew 14:22-33), our vision explains our Christian understanding of God, inspiring us all to be educators. As Jesus showed love when feeding the five thousand, we use his teachings to allow love to bring us together and inform our behaviour. Respect and responsibility will increasingly bind pupils and staff together as a community and promote a strong sense of belonging.
Our Ethos
We are an inclusive school, where everyone is recognised for the valuable contribution they to make to our community. Our foundation in Christian belief and practice helps us to embrace and value not only the spiritual but also the physical, intellectual, emotional, moral, and social development, of our children. Our vision is rooted in a desire to enable children at St Botolph’s to be the best they can be, ‘for themselves, for God and for others, living life in all its fullness (John 10:10).
Our curriculum is designed to provide all our children with the core knowledge and experiences that enable them to flourish. Our strong Christian vision and three associated values underpin all aspects of school life; what we do, who we are, and how we live. These values act as moral standards to all of our school community, guiding us and empowering us to live life in all its fullness. They align with the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Our School Values
These Christian values are promoted across the school by all adults and pupils. Our values are deeply embedded in the daily life of the school and all members of our school strive to demonstrate them through their words and actions. Each term, we celebrate individual achievements against these values through the presentation of Governor Awards in our Collective Worship.
Respect
Jesus showed respect when he fed the five thousand ensuring everyone was loved and no one went hungry. Our pupils and staff show the same consideration, love and forgiveness, working always for peace and harmony in our community, our country, and our world.
Responsibility
Pupils and staff actively serve and support the school and the wider communities in which they live and strive for justice and equality for all people. We support the community to overcome barriers just as Jesus did when he held out his hand to encourage Peter to step out of the boat, taking responsibility for ourselves and others.
Resilience
We empower the children to have faith in themselves; to overcome the barriers of life to achieve their full potential. Pupils and staff live in a positive climate of hope, have courage, show compassion and keep their faith in each other as Peter showed to Jesus as he stepped out of the boat. They are thankful both for the challenges they face and the blessings they receive.
