Yule Be Amazed: Round One Bake Off Chaos!
The first round of the St Bots’ Bake Off took place on Monday 24th November, and what a brilliant start it was! With a Christmas theme setting the tone, four fantastic teams from Years 5 and 6 embraced the festive spirit, creating show-stopping bakes bursting with creativity, seasonal flavours, and teamwork.
Before the competition even began, we were incredibly grateful to Miss Flynn, Mrs White and Mrs Barton, who stepped in at the last moment after two parents were taken ill. Thanks to their support, the event ran smoothly!

Our Judging Criteria
Each team was scored on four key areas:
Look: visual impact, presentation, and creativity
Taste: flavour, texture, and overall enjoyment
Technique: skill, method, and difficulty
Working Together: teamwork, communication, and shared effort
With the extra magic of the Christmas theme, the judges had an especially tough job this round. After much deliberation (and a very enjoyable tasting session for the staff!), a winner was finally chosen.

🏆 Winners: Flour Power – Joshua (Y6) and Mum
A huge congratulations to Flour Power, who took first place with an extraordinary four-tier Christmas cake. Decorated with red and green icing, delicate sugar snowflakes and festive decorations, their bake captured the Christmas theme perfectly – stunning to look at and delicious to taste. A truly well-deserved win!

The Brilliant Bakes from All Teams
Ava’s Angels – Ava (Y5)
Ava created a wonderfully festive Victoria sponge, topped with imaginative Christmas trees made from waffle cones dipped in green icing, finished with gold spray and Smarties. A clever and colourful celebration of the theme!
Reindeer Rebels – Rosie (Y5)
Rosie baked a decadent fudge Yule log, beautifully decorated in classic Christmas style. Rich, chocolatey and perfectly seasonal – a traditional favourite done brilliantly.
Hash Browns – Arsjon (Y6) and Mum
This team impressed with a vibrant red velvet Christmas cake, decorated with mini Christmas trees and Santa figures. They even added a selection of festive biscuits, going the extra mile to celebrate the seasonal theme with flair.

What’s Next in the St Bots’ Bake Off?
The excitement doesn’t stop here — the Bake Off will continue throughout the year:
Phase 2 (Years 2/3/4) – Term 3
Phase 1 (Reception/Year 1) – Term 4
Staff Bake Off – Term 5
Grand Final – Term 6
With such an impressive, and very festive, start, we can’t wait to see what delights the next rounds will bring. It was incredibly tough to choose a winner this time, and every baker deserves a huge round of applause for their effort, imagination and teamwork.
Here’s to more baking, more creativity, and plenty more Christmas cheer as the St Bots’ Bake Off continues!
