On Tuesday 27th February, we welcomed Roots to Food to St Botolph’s. Year 3 and Year 5 took part in the nutritional-based cooking workshops.
The children learnt many cooking skills, such as cutting using the bridge and claw technique, mixing and folding spices through beef and a vegetarian option) to marinade the mince with all the lovely flavours, peeling and crushing garlic, creating a Greek salad by tossing ingredients together and finally, cooking the minced beef/vegetables with a tomato sauce. All of this hard work accumulated into a very tasty Greek beef in tomato sauce on rice with Greek salad on the side and a dip of Tzatziki. The children thoroughly enjoyed learning how to cut vegetables, prepare and cook their own food. Once everyone’s appetite was truly tempted due to the incredible smells, they got to tuck into their creations. There wasn’t a dirty plate left in sight!
